Natalie, the diary, and the alliance

Natalie’s POV reveals that she has already made a covert alliance with Morison to stop Jericho. Morison gives her Susanne’s stolen diary and information about the serum shipment. Although Natalie’s Night Walker council distrusts Morison and condemns her disobedience, they initially authorizes the docks interception because Jericho may be creating Everborns and draining missing Night Walkers.

Natalie reads Susanne’s entries and learns about Henrik, Jericho, the experiments, Compound Green x9, and Susanne’s pregnancy. Her feelings toward Leo also deepen. She is attracted to him and begins viewing him as an individual rather than merely an impure enemy.

After rescuing Leo, Natalie reveals that Jericho is building an army. Leo learns that she has the diary and that she believes only Susanne can supply the remaining answers. He also tells Natalie about a Night Walker whom Michael interrogated and had killed. Leo remembers the victim’s name incorrectly as Calvin; Natalie recognizes from the description that it was Albin, her mentor and father figure. She vows to kill Michael.

Natalie, Leo, and Morison approach Puritas Sanguinis. The council’s conduct reveals that Night Walker society is no moral refuge: it is authoritarian, class-conscious, and willing to suppress inconvenient truths. The council condemns Natalie’s actions and holds Morison responsible for Albin’s death despite his denial. It also exposes and discusses the treatment of Natalie’s mother in a way that intensifies Natalie’s alienation. Leo concludes that neither faction offers safety or trustworthy leadership.
