Malmö City Docks & Second Major Betrayal

Jericho orders Michael’s team to steal four suitcases from an incoming ship. Michael names Leo his right-hand man and privately asks him to watch Morison, whom Michael secretly distrusts. The cases’ contents are kept secret even from Michael.

At the docks, a few of the Everborns impersonate law enforcement while Michael and Leo board the cargo ship. The operation is an ambush: Natalie and the Night Walkers attack after receiving information from Morison that the Everborns will be there. Numerous fighters and crew members of the Everborns die. Michael is badly injured, and Leo assumes command long enough to save him. The four cases fall into Natalie’s hands and Morison is seen by Leo leaving with the Night Walkers.

The cases contain silver capsules of fluorescent green serum stamped “Università degli Studi del Salento”—the University of Salento in Italy. Natalie connects them to Compound Green x9 after reading Susanne’s diary and concludes that Leo is probably the boy in the prophecy.

Morison’s betrayal (this is the second betrayal in the timeline but is the first betrayal show in the book*) is exposed by Leo to Jericho. Jericho, upset but calm, discards Michael as an expendable errand boy and blames him for the failed mission, and begins cultivating Leo as the stronger, more compliant replacement.
